Wainford weirpool

Weir pool at Wainford Maltings

Limited car parking on the side of the road.

The weir pool is now the only part of the river that can currently be fished due to access problems. This water is leased from the Environment Agency but there is no legal right of access to the area around the maltings and surrounding buildings. The club has had protracted negotiations with EA to try and resolve this issue but, to date, (2018) without success.

The remaining stretch of the river which was accessible, upstream of the weir is now closed because of dangerous trees.

Please do not make any attempt to access this stretch.

At present (October 2018) it is not known when this stretch will become accessible again, it's out of the Club's hands.

Because of these problems and the fact there is only one purpose built (by EA) swim the Club considers this water not under our control, but free fishing.

The weir pool itself can be excellent with up to 10 feet depth running to 3ft shallows. Good Chub, Roach and Perch can be had here, particularly later in the year.
