A very good Bungay Cherry Tree Junior Angling Match at the Club’s Ellingham Lake saw the Youngsters endure the rain and last the morning out.
Carp conveniently fed in the margins and promising 12-year old Gabriel Wilding from Hempnall, who already can tie his hooks on better than a lot of adults, won the day on his 4-metre pole.
Taking fish to 4 lbs from peg 11, often on bread, he totalled a fine 34 lbs and 4 ozs to win clearly from Broome boys Matt Oakins on 19 lbs 13 ozs, and whose brother Will came third with 12 lbs 5 ozs.
George Dodd from Ellingham, the youngest competitor, weighed in 3 lbs 10 ozs with a lot of healthy highly coloured Rudd in his bag which took his maggots keenly!
Club Angler Will Duncan kindly donated his used sturdy Tackle box seat and some equipment, whilst popular Avenue Angling generously provided rods, reels and other tackle.
Crossways at Ellingham provided vouchers and tackle prizes too.
Angling Direct gave every competitor a bag of pellets and Parents and contestants showed their appreciation with a round of applause.
Chairman Glenn Shiplee thanked the Organiser Dave Gladwell and helpers Dave Lilley and Tony Game, saying the Club coped well with the tracking records and Covid distancing precautions.
